Agras T40 Spraying System: Dual Atomizers and Impeller Pumps
27 May 2024
How the T40's centrifugal atomizers and magnetic drive pumps differ from conventional nozzles, how to choose droplet size and how to look after the pumps.
A spraying drone's success largely depends on its spraying system: how evenly it distributes product, how well it controls droplet size and how reliably it works under heavy use. The Agras T40 replaced earlier pressure nozzle systems with dual centrifugal atomizers and magnetic drive impeller pumps. Here is how the system works and what it changes in the field.
Note: The Agras T40 is a previous-generation DJI spraying drone. The current line-up includes the Agras T50, Agras T55 and Agras T70P. The information here remains relevant for operators still flying the T40.
Dual Centrifugal Atomizers
Liquid is fed onto a disc spinning at high speed, which breaks it into fine droplets of similar size. The system delivers up to 12 L/min and a spray width of up to about 11 m.
Adjustable droplet size
Droplet size is adjustable from 50 to 300 microns, and a dual-disc braking design keeps droplets uniform. In practice:
- Fine droplets: better coverage for fungicides and insecticides in dense canopies, but more drift risk in wind.
- Coarse droplets: reduce drift for herbicides and in light wind.

Magnetic Drive Impeller Pump
The pump's motor is fully separated from the liquid by a magnetic coupling. Because power is transferred without contact, there are no seal leaks between the liquid and motor chambers and corrosion risk is reduced.
- One pump delivers 6 L/min, two deliver 12 L/min.
- A smooth flow path reduces clogging with wettable powders, and the twin impellers help keep powder in suspension.
- The pump can be removed and cleaned without tools.
Strong Downwash for Canopy Penetration
The coaxial twin-rotor downwash pushes droplets deep into the canopy, helping reach the underside of leaves in orchards and dense field crops.
Real-Time Weight Sensing
A weight sensor measures the remaining load, eliminating stuck-float problems and letting the drone calculate exactly when to return for refilling.
Maintaining the Spraying System
- Flush with clean water and clean the strainers at the end of each day.
- Calibrate the flow meter and weight sensor at the start of the season.
- Check atomizer discs for cracks or wear.
