Spreading Fertilizer by Drone with the Agras T30: Spreading System 3.0
25 May 2024
How to spread granular fertilizer by drone when fields are too wet to enter, how the T30's weight-based rate control works and what variable-rate spreading offers.
Spreading granular fertilizer by hand or tractor causes serious delays, especially when fields are too wet after rain, and late top-dressing costs yield. The Agras T30's spreading system was developed to spread fertilizer, seed and feed without driving on the field.
Note: The Agras T30 is a previous-generation DJI spraying drone. The current line-up includes the Agras T50, Agras T55 and Agras T70P. This article is for operators still flying the T30 or considering a used unit.
Capacity
Spreading System 3.0 carries 40 kg. According to DJI, at 40-50 kg/min it can spread about one tonne per hour, roughly 40% more than the T20. Real capacity depends on rate, field shape and refill logistics.
A three-gate outlet and an 8-channel spinning disc spread granules evenly. Gravity feeding protects seeds, and the system can be fitted or removed in about two minutes.
Accurate Rates with a Weight Sensor
Many spreaders measure by volume, which requires conversions for fertilizers of different density. The T30 weighs the hopper in real time: the operator enters the rate per area and the system adjusts automatically, showing the remaining load live.
Variable-Rate Fertilizing
The T30 can work with prescription maps made from multispectral images (for example from a Mavic 3M), applying more where crops are weak and less where they are strong.
Uses
- Top-dressing wheat and barley
- Direct seeding and fertilizing rice
- Pasture renovation and cover crops
- Feed distribution in aquaculture
Field Tips
- Calibrate flow with the fertilizer you will use.
- Damp, caked fertilizer can block the hopper; use dry product.
- Spread width depends on granule weight; set pass spacing accordingly.
- Clean the hopper and disc after use; fertilizer corrodes metal.
Spreading capacity is higher on current models: the Agras T50 carries 50 kg. See our T30 battery article and the Agras T30 page.
