New Trend: Agricultural Drones in Crop Protection in Türkiye
18 April 2023
How to prepare products for drone application of fungicides, insecticides and herbicides, what to check on the label and how to protect neighbouring areas.
Crop protection is the most common use of drones in Türkiye. Success depends not only on the drone but on choosing the right product, preparing the mix correctly and applying it responsibly.
Label and Registration First
The product must be registered for the crop and target. Always follow the label rate, timing, rainfastness and pre-harvest interval, and follow Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry rules on aerial application and local announcements.
The Logic of Low-Volume Application
Drones use much less water per area than tractors. The product amount on the label stays the same; only carrier water is reduced, so the mix is more concentrated and preparation needs more care.
Preparation by Formulation
- Wettable powders (WP) and water-dispersible granules (WG): always pre-mix separately; settling and nozzle blockages are most common with these.
- Emulsifiable concentrates (EC) and suspension concentrates (SC): usually mix easily; still test compatibility when combining products.
- Mixing order: follow the label recommendations.
Droplet Size by Application
- Fungicides and insecticides: finer droplets and lower speed for good leaf coverage.
- Herbicides: coarser droplets to reduce drift, with special care near sensitive crops.
See our weather guide for details.
Protecting Bees and Neighbours
- Respect label restrictions on bee-toxic products during flowering.
- Inform local beekeepers and neighbouring landowners before spraying.
- Leave buffer zones near water and homes.
Keep Records
Record date, field, product, rate, weather and operator for traceability and transparency.
