Agricultural Drone Use in Türkiye Is Growing Fast

18 April 2023

From the difficulty of finding seasonal workers to new contract spraying businesses, we look at five factors driving drone use in Türkiye, with regional examples.

A few years ago farm drones drew curious crowds at fairs; today they are a common sight from the rice fields of Thrace to the cotton fields of Çukurova. Here are five reasons drone use is growing so fast in Türkiye.

1. Labour Is Harder to Find

Rural migration and the difficulty of finding seasonal workers push farmers to look for alternatives, especially in time-critical work like spraying. One drone and a small team can finish in hours what used to take several people days.

2. The Need for Timely Treatment

Spraying windows are often only a few days long. When tractors cannot enter after rain or irrigation, drones keep working, which is decisive in cereal disease control and rice pest control.

3. Suitable Crops

Türkiye's large wheat and barley areas, rice in Thrace and the Black Sea region, cotton, maize and sunflower are well suited to drones. Use is also growing in hazelnut groves and orchards.

4. Contract Spraying

Many drone owners treat neighbours' fields for a per-area fee, speeding up payback and giving smaller farmers access to the technology.

5. Training and Clearer Regulation

Established SHGM registration and pilot certification processes and more widespread training have made it easier for new users to start. Daze Tarım provides basic operation and maintenance training with every delivery; our training in Gönen is one example.

What Comes Next?

Higher-capacity models, faster charging and better obstacle sensing are making drones the main spraying tool on larger farms. The current line-up includes the Agras T50, Agras T55 and Agras T70P. See the concrete gains in Advantages of Agricultural Drones.
